Suzi Bellman Family Papers

Scope and Contents This scrapbook was created by Elizabeth Borden in 1927, when she was 14 years old, to document and commemorate a trip she took to California with her mother to see her grandmother Holden. She took the train through Canada and visited many spots such as Lake Louise, Vancouver, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Chicago and Washington, DC. California Private Land Claims Collection

The California Private Land Claims Collection is made up of photocopies of a selection of California private land claims presented to the Public Land Commission to determine the validity of prior Spanish and Mexican land grants within California. The contents include handwritten transcripts of proceedings and maps.

Chapman Goss Family Photograph Album

Scope and Contents

This album contains photographs from the late 1800s of the families of William Freeman Myrick Goss and Hannah Elizabeth Chapman Marcy. The earliest photograph is dated 1872, but several tintypes or daguerrotypes may have been taken earlier. Last names of people included in the album are (in order of appearance): Gaston, Marcy, Atkinson, Burgess, Ingham, Sawyer, Clink, Chapman, Goss, Barlow, Cooper, Scudder, Clark, Pratt, and Atkins.

Den, Bell, and Luton Families Papers

Abstract

The papers of the Den, Bell, and Luton Families are focused largely on land ownership by brothers Nicholas and Richard Den, early settlers of Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, and their heirs. They highlight the transition in land tenure during the Mexican period and early years of California statehood as well as the inner operations of land and oil development in Santa Barbara County during the first part of the twentieth century.

Abstract

The collection consists of portraits and prints of Santa Barbara citizens who have been active and influential in the work of preserving Santa Barbara's history. They were photographed by Walter Douglas in his home studio between 1996 and 2002. The collection also consists of corresponding oral history interviews with the portrait subjects.
